“The more you understand, the more you love; the more you love, the more you understand. They are two sides of one reality. The mind of love and the mind of understanding are the same.” Thich Nhat Hanh
Understanding may be defined as ‘seeing the true nature of things’ or as ‘seeing things as they really are’. It may be said that as we understand more, we also love more, as from a Law of Attraction perspective the true nature of things is love.
Krishnamurti “…that which you understand, from that you are liberated…” Understanding not only leads to love but it also frees us from any unwanted experiences and creates a space in which they can positively transform.
In addition to understanding leading to love, love also leads to understanding. If we want to develop our understanding of someone or something an effective way to do so is to focus on the positive qualities of the person or on the positive qualities of the situation. This leads to understanding as when we are feeling love and appreciation we have access to broader perspective which understands everyone and everything. If we have a challenging situation or relationship it can therefore be helpful to make a written list of anything that is good in the situation or anything that we like about the person. Interestingly, it doesn’t matter whether the things that we write on the list feel significant or less important, provided that what we write feels good. The reason for this is that through writing any positive thoughts we will come into greater alignment with our true self and have access to increased understanding.
As meditation brings us into greater connection with who we really are through quietening our mind, it also increases our understanding and ability to feel love.
